Who Would You Be if You Weren’t in Your Skin?

Why we must shed the old and embrace the new

I was sitting in the lobby at work, admiring the paintings on the wall during a Self Care Saturday, and one splatter acrylic caught my eye — it resembled snake skin and immediately reminded me of the growth many of us are experiencing right now.

It made me think about what it must be like to be a snake — to wiggle out of your old skin, perhaps even exposing your vulnerability for a hot minute, and then adjust to the new skin, literally leaving your old skin/self behind.

Can you imagine what it would be like if all of a sudden you could just slip out of your old skin, leaving all your old baggage behind, and show up the next minute as a glorious new version of yourself?

According to google, it takes a snake 1–2 weeks to shed its skin, while it can take us silly humans years, if not decades! The reason it takes us so long is because we often don’t want to let go of those parts of us that “make us who we are”, or parts that feel “comfortable” even though we’re really experiencing pain underneath.

Can you imagine who you would be if you simply released everything from your past? Even just for a moment? What would it be like to have a completely blank slate?
