The Unexpected Discovery I Found at Rock Bottom

It was 4-something-am on October 26th, 2018 and I was flagging down cars on an almost deserted road in the middle of Greenwich, CT.

“Wait, wait!” I yelled as I flailed my arms in desperation for someone to stop and help me. “Do you happen to have jumper cables? My car won’t start.”

I am dumbfounded that not a damn person carries jumper cables in their car anymore. Is that a thing of the past?

After about a half hour, and meeting a white delivery van for the second time, the driver offered to call the cops for me.

“YES! PLEASE! I need help” I replied gratefully, completely forgetting why I was even in this predicament in the first place.

A wave of relief washed over me as I saw the police car approaching.

“Have you been drinking, Miss?” I was asked, with what appeared to be a genuine concern.

“Yes, officer, sir, I have” I said, knowing I had better tell the ugly truth or face the consequences. “I was here at the bar last night, I lost my phone, my car won’t start, and I live an hour away”.

Somehow, miraculously, I avoided arrest (although I watched my car being hoisted onto the tow truck and…
